Journal Entry due Dec. 17

I have two professions I would love to create a photo story for. One would be my dream job, an interior designer. I'd want to study this profession because I want to get closer to it and I want to be able to get up close and personal with something that I am really passionate about. The other profession I would want to crate a photo story for would be a Youtuber/Entertainer. I have a HUGE obsession with Youtubers and even while they claim their lives to be boring, I really want to see what an average day in the life of Grace Helbig, or Mamrie Hart, or Hannah Hart, or Meghan Reinks, or Coleen Ballinger, or Bethany Mota, or Shane Dawson, or Jesse and Jeana from PVP, or The Fine Brothers, or Jenna Marbles, would be like. I just love their lives that we are through the camera and I want to see all of it. (Also I really want to start a YouTube channel soooooo...)

Journal Entry due Dec. 12

I don't think I've really observed anything really different about my teacher, but I definitely have noticed how different she is in other classes besides my own. In my class, we usually have big class discussions and we have much more fun with our learning. It doesn't seem like a harsh learning environment where we are told what to do and spend an entire class period writing essays with impossible guidelines. In the period I have observed, my teacher is a little less involved with the class and stands back a little more. There are not very many class discussions, but that also has to deal with the material she is teaching to them. Our classes are working on two completely different things and that probably effects what she can and cannot discuss. She is still the same person and teacher but it is much different from the learning environment I am used to in her class.

Overall, I'm not facing ad many issues as I though I would encounter. It is still a little awkward taking pictures because she does sit at her desk for the majority if the period. She is also pretty camera shy and she occasionally apologizes for getting up and moving around in one of my shots, which I always remind her is the point of the project! But the thing I am finding to be most difficult is distracting the students and not being as quite ninja-like as I had hoped. They are curious, which I understand, but I still don't want to get in the way of their class time and distract them.

Overall, the thing I have definitely noticed the most is how my teacher is the same person throughout all of her classes, but she can shape shift into different forms of herself depending on the environment.

Dorothea Lange Photo

I absolutely love the leading lines in the photo. The simplicity in this photo is incredible and I love that this isn't a portrait picture, but it still shows Dust Bowl isolation and depression.

Photo Assignment due Oct. 8

Right Brain Tuesday

1) A man walks into a bar, an angry woman with a bat follows, and the woman turns into a vampire and flies along side her husband.

2) A kid gets on the bus to school one morning, the door closes when he realizes there's a ghost in the back of the bus, and the kid just sits next to the ghost and he starts a friendly conversation.

3) A man finds an iPod on the street, it has a note attached that says "play me," and like the Alice and Wonderland fan that he is, he eats the iPod instead.

4) A woman is preparing a TV dinner one night, she opens the dessert portion, and finds that her missing engagement ring from 15 years ago was in the brownie.

5) A man stumbles across a convenience store robbery, he sees the robber about to run out of the store with a full duffle bad, and he stands there getting a video of it with his phone like every other by stander.

Photo Assignment Oct. 1

I just really like autumn.

Crazy Little Thing

"And wuv, true wuv, will fowow you foweva... So tweasure your wuv..." -The Princess Bride

Maybe it's the one that got away.
Maybe it's your pet.
Maybe it's your grandmother
                 your brother,
                 your aunt,
                 that celebrity,
                 your boyfriend,
that kid in chemistry you really like,
                 or your best friend.

Love is unknown and known at the same time.
Love is imperfect and perfect.
Love is the best thing and the worst.

Love is ugly and infuriating
                     and frustrating
and makes you want to scream
                     and cry.

But love is love and once you find it, it's almost impossible to let go.

Throwback: My Name...

Sarah Jane Kriebel

My parents always liked simple things. They liked old-fashioned names. At the time, they had a dog named Abigail and they thought the name was nice and simple, but having two "Abby"s in the house would have gotten pretty confusing. My mom liked the name Emily, but my dad absolutely hated it. So they finally settled on Sarah... with an 'H'. My middle name, Jane, I think came from my father's Aunt Jane and they loved the simplicity of "Sarah Jane".
My first name means "princess" in Hebrew and my last name comes from the Middle High German word "Krieger" which manes "warrior" or "soldier". But in some cases it comes from the Middle High German word "Kriege" which means "obstinate".

If I had to give myself a name, it would be "Mary Poppins" so I could be practically perfect in every way. :)

Tomasz Gudzowaty

This is by far my favorite Tomasz Gudzowaty photographs because I love the whole series of swimmer photographs but the perspective and contrast of this one are really incredible. Most people would never think to take an underwater photo with that worm's eye point of view.

Alfred Eisenstaedt

This is my favorite photo taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt because Walt Disney is such an inspiration to me and his characters shaped my childhood and made me the person I am today.

Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is a portrait photographer who has taken some of the most iconic photos for Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and Vogue. She has has the opportunity to work with such legends as John Lennon in one of the most famous photographs of him that was taken just hours before her was killed. This is one of my favorite Leibovitz photos, not only because of the amazing photo that was so controversial at the time, but also just the fact that Leibovitz was the last person to professionally photograph John Lennon. That just creates such an interesting story.
